Bharatnatyam

Bharatnatyam is not just a dance form but a spiritual journey that connects the performer with divine energy. We teach our students that this ancient art is a path to self-discovery, discipline, and cultural preservation.

Why We Offer This Subject
Bharatnatyam was introduced to our curriculum to preserve our rich cultural heritage while providing students with a medium to develop physical discipline, mental focus, and artistic expression. The dance form builds confidence, improves posture, and instills cultural values.

Curriculum Timeline

June-July

Foundation & Posture

Defination and meaning of the dance form. Introduction to basic posture (aramandi), single hand gestures (Asamyukta hasta mudras), and foundational steps (adavus) Tattadavu Nattadavu

August-September

Technical Development

Focus on rhythmic patterns (jathis), eye movements (drishti bhedas), and neck movements (griva bhedas) with continued adavu practice.

October-November

Dance Items

Introduction to simple choreographic patterns, beginning with pushpanjali (invocation) and learning about the relationship between dance and music.

December-January

Expressions & Storytelling

Focus on abhinaya (facial expressions), learning to portray emotions and tell stories through dance, introduction to basic slokas and their meaning.

February-March

Performance Preparation

Integrating all learned elements into a cohesive dance piece, understanding stage presence, costume, and preparation for the annual showcase.
